Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received February 12.)
Peking, January 28, 1912. WITH reference to my despatches Nos. 29 and 36 of the 16th and 19th instant respectively, in which I enclosed copies of telegrams forwarded to Peking by the Chambers of Commerce at Shanghai and Hankow, in favour of the abdication of the throne, I have the honour to transmit herewith copy of a letter which I have received from the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce to the same effect.
The Shanghai Chamber telegraphed to Hong Kong the text of the representation they had made, and strongly recommended that the committee of the Hong Kong Chamber should telegraph to Prince Ching and Prince Ch'un endorsing their appeal. As will be seen from enclosures Nos. 2 and 3 in this despatch, the Hong Kong Chamber adopted this suggestion, sending the message through the agent of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank here, and also took steps to inform the revolutionary leaders at Shanghai of the views they held.

Hong Kong, January 16, 1912 I BEG to enclose for your Excellency's information a copy of a telegraphic despatch received from the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, on the subject of the revolution in China, also copy of a further telegram from the same source, sent for the information of the British members of the committee of this Chamber.
The committee gave the matter their careful consideration, and I now beg to enclose copy of a telegram which has been sent to Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Ching and Prince Chun, strongly endorsing the message of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce.
A copy of this Chamber's reply to the Shanghai Chamber is also enclosed.

(Through Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, Peking.) PLEASE communicate the following to Prince Ching and also to Prince Ch'un :- With reference to the telegram sent your Imperial Highness on the 12th January by the committee of the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce, the committee of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce beg to inform your Highness they respectfully urge careful consideration of the telegram which they fully endorse and has their entire support.
